Here’s the thing. We are big fans of budgeting. Anytime we are about to start a big project around the house we talk about how much it will cost us. We like to have an idea of what it will cost so we can save up that money and not have to worry about it while we are in the middle of renovating. For example, a year and a half ago we completely renovated our guest bathroom. We decided it would be about $2,000 to complete and saved up that money before we started. We tracked where every penny went and ended up spending $1,995.34. That right, $4.66 under budget. Can you believe that? We hardly could!
Now back to the kitchen. We are combining the budgets for phase one of the kitchen plus the flooring because we want them to happen right after one another. Our total budget for these two things is about $5,000. Here is where that $5,000 is allocated:
We try to keep a little bit of a cushion in the budget because everything always cost more than you think, hence the $626 miscellaneous line item.
Here’s to hoping we come in under budget and no unforeseen expenses!
